Take a Personal SWOT Analysis to Safe-guard your Mindset, Motivation and Money Making Potential!
By Minister Anna C Williams
At a very young age I was tremendously impacted by an impassioned plea from an extremely desperate woman whose cry was “I want to live”. I can still see her running down the aisle of a bus or train with her arms outstretched and a panged look of hopelessness and terror on her face that begged to be redeemed unto a newness of life which nothing short of a miracle could provide. The scene was from a movie by the same title of her impassioned plea, and though it was a movie, the vividness of it became a real life motivation for me, in considering the importance of focus and determination in avoiding the entrapments of life’s common failures. I decided early on that my end would not be the same as hers. I decided to make life choices that would benefit my desire to have good success.
I assume you are reading this article for that very same reason. Successful people realize that our life choices make the difference in the outcomes of our efforts, no matter what they are. Using the following SWOT principles of analysis to do a personal self-check, is one of the ways I stay on track in mindset, motivation and in my money making activities.
SWOT is an acronym that is used to analyze causation and/ or potential in a person or a process. Basically, it is a means of problem solving or prevention.
For our purposes, we want to assign the SWOT acronym to the task of taking an inward look at ourselves in the following ways:
- “S” stands for strengths. Choose three or four categories of your personal and/or business life to define the major strengths you possess and can apply to your present goals. Are you organized, dependable, creative, friendly, generous, intuitive, diligent, loving, etc.? In what ways can you maximize these strengths in mindset, motivation, and money making?
- “W” stands for weaknesses. In like manner, be honest with yourself in defining the areas that need improvement in your life. Are you impatient person or a procrastinator? Does fear hinder you from wise decision making? What skills are lacking in your business building? What specific things need to be addressed before you can actualize the next level of your good success? Do you allow circumstances to limit you from taking beneficial risks? What needs to be first area of change in order for your life-style to reflect your goals?
- “O” stands for opportunities. We all have an inexhaustible arsenal of resources at hand, but sometimes our vision or lack thereof limits us from optimizing our lives. Making an honest assessment of our own perspectives and viewpoints concerning the ways and means that we can motivate ourselves, edify our mindsets, and generate more income producing activity is the benefit of using a SWOT analysis in the area of opportunity. We never know who, or what or how, or when or where the power of opportunity will impact us to “keep us moving” towards our desired end of good success. Lack of knowledge creates lack of vision. Without a vision the people perish.
- “T”, last, but not least, represents the threats towards our lives that we may, or may not be able to ignore or change. In any business, as well as in life, there will always be the dynamics of change, of cause and effect, and of universal laws that effect and bring affect to us on many levels. In this area, there will always be a conscious need to stay cognizant of the change agents that are most closely related to our goals and aspirations. To help in this area, I believe that it is always beneficial to have mentors, who can give guidance in areas where we may be short sided. Using a SWOT analysis to take a meditative look at the issues that need the help of someone else will benefit those who understand the value of expertise. To be unaware or unconcerned toward the threat potential, that surrounds us on every level, is to be walking target of failure’s intent to keep us from demonstrating our true potential with the lives we have been given.
I am grateful to the mentor who invited me to take a “self-check through the SWOT analysis and as well, I am thankful to be able to pass it along as a personal and business building tool to those who like myself and the woman at the beginning of this article, found it needful to cry out, “I want to live” .
And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
